we went to kampong glam, little india and chinatown on tuesday for our fieldtrip for IDMI week.

conservation, this word alone. does it mean to do good for the place or to ruin it?

i shall not comment. it's our project anyway. haha.

but talk about conservation, if they want to conserve something, i'd say conserve the big field in front of tanah merah mrt station.

conserve it, disallow buildings to be constructed there!

conserve it so usual activities will not stop.

before soil testing started, before the land was sold, it was a lively place. lively not as in lots of people there at a go, but there was fun, there was joy, there was spirit, there was the atmosphere!

people parked their cars in front of the field and flew their remote control planes and helicopters there, watching it fly so freely and high up into the sky. although humans couldnt fly, that alone made them feel so free. its especially such a joy to watch the aeroplanes fly when people walk across the field.

owners let their dogs loose and let them play and run free and wild on the field while they themselves lay on the grass to rest and admire the big, blue, vast sky, or just stroll slowly on the field, watching over the dog, or chat, socialise and relax with other owners there too.

children, teenagers or even adults play soccer on the field too, having so much fun, having the time of their lives then, playing, running and exercising in the field. people played soccer there on birthdays, they played soccer there after school in preparation for competitions too.

once, there was a couple down right smack in the middle of the field. no need to say what they were doing then, but it still involved the field and people having great times!

people just run out to the field when they want to have fun. they could do anything there. be it just running around catching each other or playing ball with each other, they just have fun!

the field is the place for people to escape from the bustling, busy and fast life of singapore.
the field is for people to have a break from life once in a while.
the field is where people go to be stress free!

people have to take a break from life and appreciate the little things in life or simply just slow down their pace for a moment. where do people go? to the field!

just laying down on the soft green grass and gazing up to the vast sky, the big blue sky, you can feel as if you were really flying in it. you will then notice and actually really feel how huge, endless and boundless the sky really is.

although we all already know that it is THAT big, but out there, you really feel it. because the land area is relatively large, and the housing around it are considerably low, you really can feel like you're floating in the sky, boundless, limitless and free!

at night as you walk through the field, looking up is an enormous dark blue sky so beautiful, you can literally gaze upwards your whole journey across the field. it is so big, wherever you turn, it still feels endless, it really makes you stare in awe, sometimes people really just stop right in their tracks to look up and admire it. it's so beautiful it's really very mi2 ren2.

on some nights, when you look out on the sky above the field, the moon can be seen so clearly, its so large and bright. when the sky is very dark, you can see lots of bright stars shining across the sky above you. there is really a lot of stars, you'll feel like its a mini galaxy right above your head. mini because although there are lots of stars, there still isnt as much as in other countries where there are so many stars, its like they were just splashed on. but how often do you get to see such big bright moons and so many stars in singapore anyway?

how often can you get to experience that? especially in singapore, in such a busy and hectic country where everybody's footsteps and pace are so fast.

how do i know so much?

i live right in front of it.

although it really isnt like a beach, seaside, a mountain foot, the top of a mountain or anything as scenic as that, the simple field itself can be just as beautiful if you know how to appreciate it.

but its really not just about the view, its about the people there, the life on the empty field, the activities people carry out over there, living back the simple life, asking nothing more but mere freedom to relieve stress from everyday work.

for the older people, its to relive their younger days as a child, feeling ever so carefree once again.
for the younger people, its to enjoy their days as a kid while they still can before stress, problems and work come haunting them in the days to come.

now that they're starting construction there, its really such a pity, i cannot describe how -. i just cannot put it in words.

sometimes i wish i had $350million to buy over the land.

like you may be thinking now, there are still parks or shopping centers you can go to, but its just not the same. although parks pretty much do the trick too, it just still feels different.

afterall, people in the field are people who live nearby it.

neighbours, as you may call it.
